“Dark Helmet” (apologies to Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs) is the given name for Tom’s 2006 Wrangler Unlimited. Having virtually ruined SuperCJ for street and light trail use, Tom wanted a Wrangler that would serve as both a daily driver and family outing rig. And what better vehicle than a TJ Unlimited? Lots of room, air conditioning, doors, a hardtop, radio…all the stuff that makes getting old tolerable.
While some modifications are planned, Dark Helmet will always be a light trail rig and motorhome dinghy. Best of all, the Mojave Road Guide never leaves the glove box.
