Onyx Summit Run
August 2005
Richard, Mike, Ed, Ed the Cabinet Guy, and I tagged along on Inland Empire 4 Wheelrs Onyx Summit Run. This was to be a night run in the San Bernardino Mountains attended by IE4W members and a few guests. Our group assembled at Heart Bar Campground, packed our rigs, and met the IE4W group on the highway. We aired down at the Onyx Summit trailhead just before dark and hit the trail.
Mike had planned on purchasing fuel prior to hitting the trailhead, but with the nearest gas station miles behind us, he started the evening with less than 1/4 tank fuel. He borrowed a couple gallons to make it out, but the needle was buried on empty almost at the trailhead. This was a fun trail, but it sure is hard to see your surroundings in the middle of the night. We completed the trail sometime after midnight and headed back to Heart Bar and the motorhome to crash.
Sunday morning found us making pancakes, drinking coffee and BSing until we departed. Thank you IE4W for hosting us on this run.
